Scarring is among the top concerns for my breast augmentation patients in Indiana, and it’s no surprise why. After undergoing invasive surgery and weeks of recovery, women want beautiful results. Fortunately, modern surgical techniques mean that most scars are nearly invisible over time.
Surgical Techniques
During surgery, I insert breast implants through small incisions either along the crease below the breast or around the areola. I prefer the breast crease because this incision method is effective for all breast implant types. Saline implants require smaller incisions than silicone, but they may not be right for all women. This incision method also hides the scar in the breast’s natural fold, making it very discreet.
Diminishing Scars
I use advanced techniques to minimize the size of incisions, including the Keller Funnel to insert silicone implants. After surgery, though, patients may use ointments or silicone sheets to decrease the appearance of scars.
It’s important for patients to ask questions during consultations so they know exactly what to expect and what options they have. A surgeon who has extensive training and experience with breast enhancement procedures will explain how he or she will customize techniques to achieve specific cosmetic goals, including the management of scars.
